Here's a commission from a local client for a bespoke dining table and bench, handmade in character oak. The client approached us with a design in mind, which we drew to scale for him.
He had bought some 'off the shelf chairs' which he gave us the dimensions for. The dining table was to measure 2.8m long so that he could fit 5 chairs down one side when entertaining. On an every day basis he planned to just have 3 chairs down one side, so we spaced the uprights to ensure that the 3 chairs would comfortably tuck between the table uprights when not in use.
He was after a textured finish on both the dining table and bench and wanted a rustic modern handmade feel, as the dining table was to stand in a contemporary setting. We suggested sandblasting as the method to achieve this textured finish. We produced samples for him with different oiled finishes applied, so that he could feel the texture that the sandblasting would achieve on his dining table. Once the samples and design were signed off, we proceeded to make his dining table and bench. We then sandblasted the table in 2 parts - the top and the base.
We finished the table and bench with 1 coat of Osmo Polyx oil White and a 2nd coat of Osmo Polyx oil raw. Here's a shot of a corner of the table top with the sandblasted & oiled finish.
Here's a shot of the bespoke commissioned dining table and bench in situ.
